Anyone have load data for 36gr varmint grenade and ww748 in the 223?
I picked some of these bullets up and ww748 is the only powder I have ever used?
thanks
Due to a lack of data for W748 at www.hodgdon.com, I would get a powder that Barnes lists on their site, or one from Hodgdon's, as they do cover the VG and show a bunch of powders that give good velocity and pressures.
W748 may be a bit too slow burning to give good results with that light bullet. I don't use W748 myself.
I started with 748 at 27.2gr with the VG 36gr bullet and couldn't get very good results.
I switched to 26.8 gr of Benchmark with CCI BR-4 primers and get very good accuracy at longer ranges. I found the Barnes VG bullets to vary in weight more than other varmint bullets I've used but the private ranch I shoot prairie dogs on "requests" no lead bullets.
Try calling Hodgdon and see what they say. Hodgdon is the distrubutor of Winchester powders and supplies the data for it. you might find that W748 is too slow for that light of bullet and enough powder can`t be stuffed in the case for peak pressures to be met or ignition might suffer.
Powders are not always suitable for all bullet wtgs in a given cartridge and this just might be the case. It doesn`t hurt to call and see though. You might just get some good data and, find your rifle likes it.
