I am curious about the .375 JDJ. Does anyone have any experiance with it? Does anyone know if it operates at a preassure that the Marlin model 444 action can handle ( this assumes a re-barrel to .375)? Is there a better model to convert? How does this round compare to the .375 Win?

Thanks,

Bernie

It is nothing more than a .444 necked down to .375 caliber. Since this is a bigger case than a .375 Winchester, it will give more velocity with the same weight bullets.

SSK probably still sells TC Contender and Encore pistol barrels in the caliber. I have never heard of a rifle so chambered, but it should make a good cartridge if you want performance between the .375 Win and .375 H&H. The pistol barrels come with muzzle brakes, and probably still kick like four mules.

In a lever action gun you will have bullet selection issues, as you want a flat point to prevent primer detonation in the magazine. In a single shot one can use any 'ol bullet. It sounds like a neat round for a strong single shot rifle, but then again, so is a .375 H&H:)

I have a SSK Contender 375JDJ and it is probably the only firearm that I would not sell under any condition....T/C now makes a rifle barrel for the 357JDJ and factory ammo is coming out also for it..........I deer hunt with the Hornady 220 gr. FP at around 2300 fps, and also have some 270 gr. ammo for bigger animals and then there is always the 300 FMJ's for elephants...
The recoil is pretty awesome, so be prepared...not as bad as a 45-70 handgun but close............
