Had some fun today with my single shot cmc boot pistol, 30 grains of bp a 158 grain leadcast patched to fit VERY snug in the bore, its a hoot to shoot and cheap, plus im out of 454 round balls. gotta love blackpowder it is so dang forgiving.

you can find them on gunbroker usually, mine was a gift from a friend of mine :) Ill get some pics i loaded one a little to tight down the bore,,,,,,,like needed to give a good pounding to seat the bullet, when it fired it blew through 6 inches of wooden post!!

454 round balls shave a little ring of lead on it. heres a pic of what mine looks like, its pretty crude but pack some 38 cal semiwadcutters and a good tight fit with patching with moderate blackpowder and it shoots well :) hurts your hand and i shoot a lot of hodgon h-110 max loads in my 357 mag, and i have to say this little thing hurts worse

none at all, i worked up to these loades i was worried about the brass frame, but it held. since it is patched it probally dosnt have as much pressure as a round ball would, i wouldnt use even half the charge for lead balls in it.

If .454 shaves lead then the ball is probably too big. It's supposed to be oversize on revolvers but not single shots. I'd say you should slug it and see what size ball you really need. Track of the Wolf carries a lot of different sizes and if a tight patched .358 wadcutter is working for you now, a 000 buck pellet might also work as a cheap projectile.

It may work for cheap shot, but i have few thousand lead cast 38s on hand, whole point of using them was i was bored and out of lead balls, the lead that shaves on the 454 is just where the rifling contacts it, i have a 44 cap and ball and i know what it looks like when it shaves the lead ring lol I just wasnt specific enough lol i dont like using the round balls, due to the fact that there heavier more pressure and less velocity.
