I want to make up some Speer 135 gr GDHP rounds for practice, to approximate the commercial load. Can I do these in mixed 38 Special brass (like Win, Federal, Zero, Remington) or is this not a great idea. I have 357 brass as well, but I wanted to keep the rounds in 38 Special cases so that they could also be used in a 38+P only revolver as well.

Should I just spring for the Starline 38+p brass, or is the mixed 38 Special brass ok? I was going to use Alliant's recipe for up to 6.4 gr of Power Pistol, and either Federal or CCI primers (the load listed uses CCI).

Work up your loads and you'll be fine. Most say there isn't any difference between standard .38 Special brass and +P brass. In some brands that's true, but in others it isn't. You can feel the difference when you size them and they weigh different weights.

As long as you work up your loads, it won't be a problem.

Hope this helps.

Fred
