Help I just recieved a Harrington &Ritcharson Co. 38 S&W with break top.
I love how it fits in my hand and I am going to use it in my reinactment skits of the 1890's old west. But I am trying to find a general time period for this gun. Can anyone help me?

Are there any markings or names on the revolver? How long is the barrel? Harrington and Richardson made at least 4 models and maybe more in 38 S&W. All models were discontinued in 1942 or 1946.

Am guessing the moderators will move this out of the semi-auto folder.

Take a look through this page, will get a general idea of the age of several differnt makes...not H &R's however (unless you ment to type H & A).

H & R gets complicted and doubt anyone has a complete serialization list for pre-1940's guns. From 1940 onward there was a letter designation (searial number started with a letter)....so if the serial number starts with a letter, it is post 1940.

H&R topbreak .38's were made from roughly 1887 to 1940. There were some internal improvements, mostly minor, during that time, but outside appearance was about the same throughout. Few of those guns were serial numbered (not required by law until 1968) and the records are AFAIK no longer available.
