I've been thinking about subject revolver for a while. It would be mostly for use at the range or for small game or pests.

I've searched the internet, and it appears that a Smith & Wesson Mdl 14 is about it. Does anyone currently produce a 6-inch, double action revolver in 38 Spl.? I'm not interested in a .357 because I have one.

I believe most tests show .38s being just as accurate out of a .357 as out of a .38 only.

After all, the difference between a .38 and .357 is only a tenth of an inch in length.

The only way I think you'd see any real difference is if you used a Ransom rest and that difference would be miniscule.

Sometimes it's more about finding the right bullet/ weight/configuration for a particular revolver if you looking for 5-star plus accuracy.

This sounds like a S&W Model 14 to me too. I have been wanting one for a while now, just found one and it will be home as soon as the 10 day wait is over....I suppose this law was intended to allow me time to change my mind about shooting something I was mad at. It does nothing for me except make me mad that I have to wait....

The Model 14 was included in S&W's Classic line but I am not sure it is still cataloged. I'm sure a few NIB units are hanging around somewhere.

Model 14's with a 6" barrel are reasonably available on the used market if you are an anti-lock person.

Most, but not all Model 14's have a 6" barrel. Some had 4" barrels generally manufactured after the Model 15 was discontinued.

I agree, there is something about shooting a 38 Special in a 38 Special revolver.

Mine is a Sauer Trophy. I love that gun. Saw one at the range and had to have one like it. It required a little gunsmithing but the type is ideal for me as a range gun. Unlike the Model 14, it is not done on a 357 cylinder window.

There were two or three batches of 4" Model 14s order by suppliers for Police Departments. An interesting variation and distinctly different from the Model 15.
