.38 Special range ammo hard to find...

OK, I will let you guys in on one of my secrets. There is a brand of ammunition from Serbia called PRVI Partizan. The stuff I use at the range is 158gr LRN and it shoots great! The last time I bought some it was at Wideners. It WAS $13.90/50, but they are currently sold out. I bought 200 and with shipping was just over $66.00.

Of course now I know they will be sold out in the next 5 minutes, but Ammunitiontogo appears to have some in stock for $13.95.

Try and leave a few boxes for your old pal Scott, OK?

Fiocchi 158gr FMJ used to be in this price range but is now almost $17.00 at Sportsmansguide if you are in their buyers club.

Kind of ironic that ammoman is in NJ and won't ship to customers there. I have yet to figure out why, it seems, that a lot of gun makers and ammo folks are located in a few states that are so anti-gun.

I have not been able to find ammo for my guns for quite some time. First it was .380. Ended up selling that gun so it wasn't a problem...then .40 S&W got scarce. After it came around .38 was hard to find.

When the serial killer was on the loose in Gaffney, folks were buying up anything that would shoot bullets (and I don't blame them). A friend at Academy told me they sold 408 guns THAT DAY, and while I was checking another store for ammo, three people walked out the door with recently-purchased handguns in the fifteen minutes I was there. The .38 S&W lemon squeezer than had been in the case a week before was even gone! There were people driving 2 hours in every direction to buy guns, ammo, you name it...guess that explains the shortage. The only guy with .38 in stock was one ******bag charging $48 a box for LRN bullets. He had some .44 magnum target loads too if you wanted them for the bargain price of $75.

I was able to get my hands on some .454 round lead balls, and I was almost surprised to be able to get those. I previously had thought about standardizing to one or two centerfire handgun calibers, but this ammo shortage has me thinking otherwise. I plan on reloading as soon as I can afford it but for right now, I buy it when I see it, but make sure to leave some for the next person too.

Another reason to handload, not cost savings, but availability when its needed. Last time I was in ChiComMart I decided to walk past the ammo case and see what was in it since I have been reading about how hard ammo is to get. For handgun they had 2 WWB value packs of .45ACP and .40S&W, that was it. No 9mm, no .38 Special, no .357. They had some hunting rifle ammo, soft points, etc. for .270, .243, 7mm Magnum, etc. That was it. Made me again glad that I don't have to count on them or the local gun shops for ammunition. I ran out of brass, or I'd have more .38 Special.

That makes two of us! I went by walker springs wally this morning and got the same old song on .38 special. Saw the link above and OH YEAH....some 38 on it's way to knoxville. Not sure if I'll get to the range this weekend though...gun show at Chilhowee and I've got to pick and choose my get away times. Baby duty trumps all.

If I had say 800 rounds to sell of .38spl range ammo. Where here on THR would I post it for sale? Als have 300 of 9mm JHP. Where do I post it up for sale?

Let me know how that PM9 works out for you. I'm picking up my new MK9 Elite in a week and will be breaking it in, as well.

Well, so far the PM9 has 300 rounds of FMJ and 50 rounds of JHP through it with no problems at all.

Its said you should put 200 rounds of your carry ammo through a semi-auto without failure before trusting is, so that's what I'll do.

Still no luck finding .38 special in San Antonio.

reload baby.

You can load used brass with lead bullets for about a nickle a shot.
