I inheritied a smith and wesson .38 special CTG 6 shot revolver with a walnut grip from my grandfather with a number on bottom of handle V69909 and was wondering what model it was because i was interested in changing the grip on it to a modern one but i have no information on the gun thanks [email protected]

The V serial number is probably on a Victory Model of the Military & Police.
Many such guns were made as substitute standard military issue for the USA and GB in World War II. In 1957 the M&P was given model no 10.
Look at K frame grips.
Try before you buy if possible, I don't know how much the dimensions may have wandered over the past 60-70 years.
