I have seen a lot of advertisements for once-fired .38 Spl brass, a lot of which contain some amount of +p or +p+ brass. Will using +p or +p+ brass hurt anything if I use a regular load?

I've been having lots of luck with 3.2 grains of Titegroup powder with a 158 grain roundnose lead bullet.

They will work fine. The Head Stamps are to inform a shooter if the Factory round was loaded to higher pressures. (+P)

The +P+ brass was for the old Treasury load of a 110 grain bullet at near .357 magnum velocities. It was a special load made up by Winchester for the Secret Service and was later adopted by the Calif. Highway Patrol, when they still carried revolvers. It was an excellent round in the 1970's. The brass is good brass, and can be loaded with any .38 special load.

Hope this helps.

TechAlG:

Standard loads will work fine in it. But:

If you buy enough, seperate it out. Then use it to load +p loads.

I use the +p+ stuff to duplicate Elmer Kieths old load, which gets shot ONLY through guns chambered for 357 magnum.

I would just use .357 brass for everything to avoid the chamber crud that builds up in front of the .38 cases.

Plus one for downloading .357 brass to shoot in the .357 instead of plus powder loads in .38 cases. :)

I like to shoot both my .38 and .357.

I feel I need to shoot the .38 often, because it was my father's service revolver. I like to test everything out in the .357 first, because it is a heavier gun, which allows me a little room for error (i.e. a hot load won't be a problem in it as much as it would be in the .38)

I do also have a mess of .357 brass, which I will start reloading at some point. I think I'm addicted now...had my press a week now and I'm on my 3rd load in some of the brass.:)
