I recently purchased some 95 GR JHP 380 ACP bullets from Montana Gold Bullet Company. I don't have a reloading book with 95 GR JHP loading data. Does anyone have a reference for the COL on that bullet?

The Lyman book suggests 2.1 GR of WIN 231. Does anyone have experience with that load?

Thanks,

Mike

I don't know of any reloading manual that specifically lists Montana Gold bullets.
Any other 95 grain JHP might or might not have the exact same shape, so OAL would be meaningless with another brand bullet.

I would just use the info in your Lyman book for the 95 grain solid you are using for your load data.

I doubt very much if the 2.1 grain starting load will cycle the slide on most pistols. Just start there and work up until you get good functioning.

Hope this information helps you. The current Speer #14 Manual shows a OAL of .970" with a Speer 95 gr FMJ bullet. Loading info with W-W 231 is starting load 3.6 gr and max 4.0 gr. You may always remove your barrel and use it as a case length gauge. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know where I got the 2.1 gr from; either too much or too little coffee in the morning. I usually use a gauge for overall length and sometimes use my barrel on 45, but that is a good suggestion. This is a jacketed hollow point, so my guess is that since it is square-off it might be a little less than .970

Exactly.

OAL will be very similar to the 95 grain solid I referenced in post #2.

It is a Sierra truncated-cone with a flat point and will need to be seated shorter then a Round Nose of the same weight.

.970" would be way too long.

Now, the other differance is, a 95 grain JHP will probably have a longer bearing surface then a 95 grain FMJ-TC, because of the HP cavity taking up internal space.

However, the load & OAL shown for it in the Lyman manual is close enough for goobermint work.
