Greeting's All-

For those who carry .380's as a personal defense weapon,
what (if any) JHP ammo do you use? I find that Federal's
90 grain JHP Hydra Shok Personal Defense Load part #
PD380HS1 H works rather well when fired from my 'LiL
Walther PPK.

Best Wishes,

100 gr ball ammo by PMC or Magtech.

If you look at the load data, it seems you get higher velocities with ball ammo and I don't think JHP's will open at 850 FPS out of a Kel Tec. So I am sticking with something that should penetrate a bit more.

I will be testing JHP's to find out for sure though. Until then, it's round nose for me.

Try the Rem 102GS , they work good in my PPK/s The CorBon 90grHP are about a 100fps hotter than the Rem. But they seem to have a problem opening in some test.

Remington GS 102 gr. out of my Kel-Tec P3AT. It's heavy enough to get good penetration, and any expansion is a bonus.

I have also put three of five rounds in an area the size of a playing card on more than one occasion. This was done while practicing my crap-my-pants-draw-from-the-pocket-dump-all-but-two-into-the-bad-guy drill.

That's the technical name anyway.

102gr golden sabres back when i had my bersa 383A,very accurate and recoil was pretty mild for a blow back pistol.

M'lord Ala Dan :)

Remington Golden Saber 102 gr BJHP for my Bersa Thunder 380.

I actually found PMC Starfire JHP's more inherently suited to my grip, accuracy-wise, but the muzzle flash and especially the robust recoil, were just a wee bit much.

Now, hehe, if anyone wants real recoil and real muzzle flash out of a 3.5" barrel, try either Empresa Nacional Santa Barbara Semiblindado (JSP) or Twin Pines Silver Bullet JHP. Buffalo Bore also has a pretty strong JHP in .380 ACP, but that's-a way too pricey for me...
:)

Remington Golden Saber 102gr.

It opens up at very low velocities, and has reasonable energy.

Now if we could pull one of those 102gr pills and sit it in a Santa Barbara .380 case that would be a great load, but a little hot.

Oh no.
Now look what you did.
Now I have to go borrow that collet bullet-puller from my uncle...

Keltec .380 3AT ??? Barrel:
(Pdog, alittle help on barrel length?)

Corbon .380 90 gr. +P
Pen 16.50+†Exp N/A (left the block, not recovered)

Speer .380 90 gr. Gold Dot
Pen 10.50†Exp .476

Federal .380 90gr. Hydra Shok
Pen 16.50†Exp .356

These are testfire results in ballistic gellatin, shot from a Kel-Tec P3AT. While the penetration is a little low, I find the Gold Dot results interesting.

My brothers bersa .380 likes the 102 golden sabers a lot, and did real well with the 95 gold dots too. We decided on the golden sabers due to a slightly lower recoil, and 25 rounds to a box rather than gold dots 20.

Corbon 90gr but still experimenting... I particularly liked the Golden Sabres in my 40SW today at the range but haven't tried their 380ACP yet.

The hydra shock is a destructive cartridge... I've killed an antelope with one... but I'll say this, make your shots COM. All three bullets expanded, but only one hit was lethal.

Weapon was a surplus PA-63 in .380.
