Is it possible to load a .380 with a 9x19 die set? They are not listed together on die sets, but I see that you can load a 10mm with a .40 die, and a 38 special with a 357 die. I don't see why you could not load with this combination.

The .380 is so much smaller in outside diameter and completely untapered that a 9mm sizing die will not even touch it. When a .380 sneaks into a sack of 9mm brass and makes its way onto the shellplate of my Dillon, the handle slams down with no resistance.

Look at the case dimensions in your manual. You do have a manual, don't you?

Yeah I have a manual, but I'm new to this. Can you tell?

Thanks for the help

Like Jim said, the .380 case wall is significantly thinner - a much lower pressure cartridge.

Side story: I found a bunch of .380 cases fired in a 9mm a couple weeks ago. Probably 25. Poor bastard shot at least half a box of ammo single shot style until he figured it out, assuming he figured it out.

The only thing in common between the .380 ACP and the 9mm Luger is they both shoot the same diameter bullets, and use Sm Pistol primers.

The .380 ACP is a straight case measuring .374" front to back.

The 9mm is a tapered case measuring .380" at the mouth and .394" at the rim.

One case is .680" long and the other case is .754" long.
Max loaded length of one is .984", and the other is 1.169".

Not only different dies are needed, but a different shell holder too.

Your examples of .40/10mm and .38/.357 work with the same die sets because they are all straight wall cases, with the same rim sizes.

The only differance is length, which die adjustment in the press can compensate for.

I had my 380 dies and my 9mm dies on the bench because I 've been loading both lately. Mistakenly grabbed the wrong die to seat the 9mm. bad things happen to good brass.:banghead:
