I just aquired a civil war era remington 3 band 58 cal musket from my mother-in-law. She said that it belonged to one of her ansestors and was passed down through the family. It has some rust on the barrel and bands because it was locked up in a flooded house for 5 weeks due to huricane Katrina. I am in the process of finding a gun smith that will touch it. I would like to know if anyone could enlighten me as to the history of this type of rifle. Any info will be helpful.
