I've been folowing the whole 3d printed gun thing loosely for quite some time. A lot of it is very rehashed. Not much of it has ever gotten into the why.

I found this video interesting and entertaining. His main argument isn't the constitution or the need for guns. Its the governments inability to restrict them even if they want to.

A good watch in my opinion

A lot of garbage in the video, including the narrator stating that in Obama's 23 executive orders were universal background checks, and bans on high capacity magazines. I kinda stopped caring at that point, considering the video is shot and edited from a anti's point of view.

If this is the same one I saw at a different site it was interesting but garbage. At one point the geeky dude said Cody programs his printer to "kill people". HA!

Yeah, some New York Times blogger with hair greasier than a McDonald's kitchen kept going on and on about how Cody's taking something that could be good for the planet (3d printers) and using it to make stuff to kill people. He also defended his allegation that this is primarily of interest/danger to children.

The entire piece is a waste of time honestly, spending 10 minutes reading about it will get you more factual information, and less opinionated BS.

I noticed the incorrect statement abot the E.O.'s as well but other than that I thought they did a decent job keeping it middle of the road and not slanted.

The music alone was trying to make it out as if Cody is some kind of dangerous man, doing nefarious things. Just listen to the changes in tone when he prints out a receiver, heads into his workshop, etc.

That being said I agree that is the NYT "intellectual" was removed it would be far less biased, yet still biased towards the anti-viewpoint. The introduction does not give the viewer the ability to absorb the information freely, it pretty much says '2012 was the year of the gun, 15 mass murders, etc. Here's one sick man who wants everyone to have one of these horrible machines...' . A barrage of anti-statistics, videos of the mass murders, and of Obama aren't balanced by one clip of Lapierre and his "good guys stop bad guys" quote, and another brief clip of some protesters.

5-10 minutes reading about DefCAD from an unbiased source would yield far more worthwhile information. The only thing worthwhile in the video is seeing how Cody acts... kinda quirky. That in and of itself doesn't mean anything, many brilliant people have strange tendencies, but it's still interesting.

I haven't seen the video. From the comments, it would seem as if "idiology" was not a typo. (As in: idiology=ideology of an idiot).

But I do hope this technology lives up to the hype, and that a time comes -- the sooner, the better -- when anyone can "print" a weapon. What I'd like to see is the ability to "print" some NFA "destructive devices." RPG's, anyone?

It's done by Vice, they have another one on guns in America and that focuses on private purchases and ease of private purchasing in Florida. They do so interesting ones at times but they are grasping at whatever they think will generate interest. This documentary is actually behind the times. My 3D Printer arrives in June and I've got a Form 1 out for a suppressor and I'm just waiting for the tax stamp to arrive. I've been playing with CAD in the meantime to get familiar with how to actually use it. I can't wait because if it works it'll be my first Youtube video when I use it. The cost of a suppressor was not much less than the 3D printer.

I'm planning on an over-dramatic design for the baffles. It's going to be designed as a thirty caliber type that can be used with 9mm pistols and my FALS and can have water added to the bottom of the baffles. If I can pull it off and it lasts a few hundred rounds in the my FALs and CETMEs than it will be something awesome. So far the design is an individual case that individual baffles go into. The individual baffles can have water put into them before they go into case. The baffles are important so far as having somewhere to redirect the gas from firing which helps cut down the decibel level. So excited.
