3rd model Dragoon

Went shooting this afternoon with my Uberti 3rd model Dragoon.

I admit that I loaded the Dragoon with a bit too much of FFG Pyrodex... and .454 lead round bullets. Well I noticed that the load lever of that Dragoon went down a couple of times. I thought that this happened only with the big Uberti Walker (that I ordered from ****** and that I will receive next week).

Is that normal ?

The Third model has a "improved" loading lever latch, that works, IF it is made correctly! Check the end of the latch where it contacts the barrel lug. If there is any angle at all between the bottom of the latch and the flat on the matching portion of the lug then it will tend to slip.
The fix is to gently stone the surfaces so that they match.

PS Try 3fg and a .457rb more velocity, less fouling.

Pierre how much powder?
I have had my 1st model Colt Sig. drop with 35gr fffg in a W-W brass cart. and a 255gr soft lead boolit...pretty stout load. But just dropped the lever that the one time.

40-45gr ought drop that lever 1 or 3 times. But like oneshooter said check the latch and loader catch.

I probably had more than 45gr because each cylinder was 3/4 full of FFFG... (I feel guilty)...

Oneshooter; I had this same problem with a Pietta '58 Rem. It was dropping the lever now and then. I reworked the latch plunger to match the barrel lug angle and it never drops anymore. It gets full purchase on the latch now, whereas it was barely holding on before.

Yep even the latch on the Walker is fixable ..I fixed mine before I ever fired it ..just one less thing to worrie about ...Mine has never fallen .

Sure ...Take a good look at the fit of your latch ...then use a fine file or a stone ..and put a fine edge on the loading lever part ...then reshape the part it locks into ..to where it doesn`t have such a angle on it ..make it more of a flat edge ...it`s an easy fix . The problem is with the fit finishing at the factory ...they could do this for us ..but they don`t ...I`ve shot 55 gr loads out of mine alot ..and the loading lever never falls .

It maybe that you did over fill it. i have had that happen with 1851's and 1860's as well. You really need to use a powder measure as this will help you to determine where your best accuracy is. Its not always just load to the max and shoot. I have found my walker shoots best 40 grains of black. and the 1851's shoot best with 24 grains. So it just depends. you need to work up a load though not just shoot max. However i do like shooting max loads once in a while. especially out of the walker.
Once you get the walker you need to join the walker club

I also have a new Uberti 3rd Model. When I first fired it the loading lever dropped. The reviews for this item on Dixie Gun Works forum said it would.

I used a hacksaw with a fine toothed blade to deepen the slot in the catch notch. Not hard and works 100%.

Can't argue with what works. Well, not a lot anyway; Most would use a fine stone on the plunger to get the angle right, or a jeweler's file in the notch.

Works 100%. Takes about 5 seconds once you get it into a vice or holding fixture.
