3rd model Dragoon

Went shooting this afternoon with my Uberti 3rd model Dragoon.

I admit that I loaded the Dragoon with a bit too much of FFFG Pyrodex... and .454 lead round bullets. Well I noticed that the load lever of that Dragoon went down a couple of times. I thought that this happened only with the big Uberti Walker (that I ordered from ****** and that I will receive next week).

Is that normal ?

I filled the 3/4 of each cylinder with FFFG Pyrodex. I don't know the measure it corresponds.

It maybe that you did over fill it. i have had that happen with 1851's and 1860's as well. You really need to use a powder measure as this will help you to determine where your best accuracy is. Its not always just load to the max and shoot. I have found my walker shoots best 40 grains of black. and the 1851's shoot best with 24 grains. So it just depends. you need to work up a load though not just shoot max. However i do like shooting max loads once in a while. especially out of the walker.
Once you get the walker you need to join the walker club

I'm going to guess & say that if you poured powder into the chambers to about 3/4 way then you were about 45gr. but like scrat said you really need to get a measure to taylor your loads for accuracy.

It's not 'normal', but it's not rare or unheard of. While I agree completely that a powder measure is mandatory, I don't believe you necessarily overloaded the gun. The Dragoon latch depends on a spring, and springs get weak, sometimes prematurely. It's also possible that there is a dimensional problem: perhaps the latch doesn't fit quite properly and a little file work will fix it.
