What the heck does this mean, can someone please explain?
Context: I've been shopping around for a SxS, mainly vintage, lightweight, and I keep seeing this term "#4 weight barrels" mainly on guns that tend to be European/French/Lightweight.
Many of them have Euro/Shorter chambering such as 2 1/2 "or 2 5/8" for 12, 16, 20 ga.
Does this indicate what kind of loads it can handle? How much powder or lead or something? Is it a type of proof? Is it a marketing gimmick? I want to know, and I have googled this a few times and I still can't figure it out LOL
