I just picked up a USP 40 and a Springfield 40 semi auto trying to help a friend needing some cash.

I was never into the .40 since I shoot and own many 10mm guns.

I guess I will hold onto them, one in case he gets money back and wants them again but during my ownership I want to shoot them.

Since I havn't messed with 40 before, what weight bullets seem to give the best performance?

I want to order some ammo and don't have the time to buy some different types and try them out. Not so much HP as I always carry my 10mm as my primary CCW.

I shot 165gn and 180gn through mine with no problems, even when I reload.

bullet weight/and or caliber is the source of many a heated internet debate.

that being said i prefer 165gr over the 180gr. for the velocity and muzzle energy. it does have a bit more snap/flip than 180gr.. i shoot .40 because i wanted something harder hitting that a 9...

really you should already be familiar with the bullet being the same size and all unless your just trollin'.

truthfully, i have had great performance for all the weights and bullet shapes that i have used in my xd. most of the stuff that you find for cheap will either be 165 or 180gr. for reloads i use alot of 155gr round nose, as well as the 180gr flat nose. take your pick it should all be just fine in either one of those guns you have.
