40 cal. max load

Loading S$W , M&P shield in 40 cal. Using Berry's Copper plated 165. gn bullet. Lee manual states that jacketed date would be 5.1 to 5.8. I am using 5.2 -5.3 bullseye. cycles well and is quite accurate. any comments or advice ?
 
If it cycles 100%, pressure are good, and you are satisfied with accuracy, I'm not sure what else there would be to address?

Plated bullets produce less bore friction(pressure) than jacketed bullets so as long as your velocities are under the max recommend for your plated bullets- you are safe.
 
Years ago on the Wolff web site, it said that the empty cases should land 5 feet away from the handgun. Any closer, and you [to prevent jams] increase powder or decrease spring force. Any further away and you [to prevent the slide hammering the frame] should decrease powder or increase spring force. Of course, if you increase powder, in the work up, check with each round there is no guppie belly case bulge from poor case support over the feed ramp, and check there is no primer piercing from sloppy firing pin to pin hole fit.
Of course if you download too much, there is the danger of a bullet getting stuck in the barrel.

I did the math 10 or 15 years ago on what it takes to make cases fly 5 feet. [on earth] It did not add up until I realized that ~half the momentum going into the bullet and propellant in the forward direction goes into moving the frame and arm in the opposite direction. That part of the rear momentum never becomes part of the slide velocity relative to the frame. Back then "limp wrist" jams were all over the internet, but it looks to me more like low mass hand and arm jamming were at the threshold. To compensate for the little ladies, we typically see wimpy recoil springs in stock pistols [and some far flying cases and slides hammering frames].
