I was looking at .223 data and noticed there is loads up to 3800 FPS. It would be fun sending them do range at 3800 fps. I wonder how they would do in a 1:9 twist bore.

Was looking for the recipe I used on these, I must have written it down in a Hodgden manual I'm trying to find. My normal hornady book doesn't use blc(2) for the 40 grainers, still have like 60 loaded up with Sierra hp's maybe the data is with them.

Nothing wrong with the tnt, sometimes they can be a little inconsistent opening up on a animal or have a flyer now and then. They always shot good for me, back in the day speer were so much cheaper to buy you weren't expecting a match bullet. Even today other then bulk fmj's speer are likely the cheapest out there.

I have shot them at 3200 fps out of a 16” 1 in 8” twist AR, and pushed them 3700+ out of a 26” 1 in 12” twist Rem 700 SPS Varmint. The Nosler 40 gr Ballistic Tip is a little tougher than the V-Max and might hold up better in a faster twist long barrel.

Curious about the TNT bullets. What is the issue with them. I buy the hot core for my .311 and 308 rifles. Sometimes the boat tail too.
I like the 125 gr TNT in my PA-10 .308 Win. My experience with the 50 gr TNT in .223 Rem was that while they were very explosive on varmints, the Hornady 50 gr SX was more accurate in my rifles. I don’t think either one would like a fast twist barrel. (I only shot them in 1 in 12” twists).

I've been waiting to try the 70gr I think it is tnt in my 6arc, have to get some powder like tac I believe but even in the little arc should make some speed from my 22" barrel and it's pretty much the cheapest 6 mm bullet. Feeding maybe a problem but even Single loading maybe fun to try.

On the Speer TNT's:

I too like the TNT's. Initially found them during one of the early 2000's droughts in .257, but have been using them in my 260AI, 6mm, and .224, and recently in 30 cal, although 125's are a little big for p-dogs. At about 3600-3700 out of a 12 twist 2506AI, they do provide good air time....!

Since I fell into good deals on .224 and .257 online, I have a bunch of them. I hope the 2506 bbl lasts through the box of 750 I got. I need a Kenworth to haul powder for that gun........... Ackley was right about it being overbore, hehe.

On a phone call to Speer concerning 50 gr. .224 TNT bullets, I was told that it was not recommended that they be loaded to greater than 3,400 FPS. Rep told me they had thin jackets which could disintegrate if loaded hotter than that.

I was given 1,000 of these so rather than use them on the .22-250 I now load them for .223.

3400 FPS. I wonder at what twist rate? I assume that the high rpm's is what would cause it to disintegrate.
If it is 3400 FPS from a 12 twist barrel then my math says 2550 FPS out of a 9.
If it is 3400 FPS from a 9 twist barrel then my math says 4533 FPS out of a 12.

Actually the gun is an older Rem 700 with a factory twist of 14. IIRC, the rep asked me about the twist but this conversation took place 4 years ago and I am 65 so my memory is not as good as it used to be.

Some of those 40-45 grain bullets were made specifically for the 22 Hornet. They were a thinner jacket and made to work at lower speed. Otherwise they come apart at high speeds.
My 8.5:1 barrel shoots them with decent accuracy out to 200 YDS.

I shoot them today. 3700 FPS according to data. All performed well. The speer my axis really likes. I shot at the steel after i made sure they grouped on paper. You defently tell they were flying fast. Much quicker impact time vs shooting 55 grain.
