What does a .40 hi-power recoil like? I owned a 9mm hi-power once and the recoil wasn't bad on it. The real reason I ask is that I have found that a Hi-power with a Rowel hammer will bite me but the Hi-Power with the Spur hammer doesn't (backwards I know, but I am correct on this). A 1911 with a standard spur type hammer will also bite me. I am not worried about the recoil per se but getting blood drawn doesn't appeal to me. Thanks.

My $.02 on the HP recoil and hammer bite ?(s): Recoil should be similar to a similar weight .40, but being snappier than a 9mm's recoil, getting the sights back on target may take a little longer.

I'm sure I could be proven wrong, but I think hammer bite is independent of caliber, more attributed to the geometry of the hammer/spur, a shooters fleshy mitts etc. If you want to customize a BHP, some weld-on a Beavertail, (and there are actually glue on aftermarket beavertails.) An option if your worried about the hammer-bite: Get a FN with the SFS option. SFS seems bite-proof, and the safety has a more positive 'click' than the standard safety.
