Searching for the magic, one-fits-all-and-safe recipe for the .40 S&W with a 180gr TCFP bullet from Missouri Bullet Company and Bullseye powder.

Reading the various posts around here I'm not sure I've picked the best OAL and maybe I'm light on the powder. My only test gun is a S&W Glock-wannabe.

Welcome to THR.What load, what OAL.I have not used Bullseye in my 40,but have good luck with Accurate #5,Power Pistol,Red Dot.I use Red Dot when shootin 175 grn Lee TC as cast bullets.

Hi Haloe and welcome to THR. I am having very good results using 5.5g of Power Pistol behind a 180g Berry's FP. Since it's a plated bullet, I use the same tables out of Lyman's #49 as those used for lead. Seating to OAL of 1.125". I shoot an S&W .40 M&P. Good luck and good shooting.

1.125 OAL

4.4gr Bullseye

Lee manual that I have doesn't provide a recipe for this bullet or any lead bullet at this weight. The above is based on taking .5gr of powder out of their recipe for a 180gr FMJ.

I use that projectile and put 5.0 gr. of Bullseye for a snappy load. Don't know how fast it moves out, but it works for me.

Skip in Kingsville

4.2gr Bullseye with the 180gr TCFP lead, and I shoot a S&W M&P FS (something a Glock would wannabe).

It could certainly be pushed a bit . . . 4.4gr wouldn't be bad, but I don't think I'd go to 5gr.

A bit more smoke than I'd like, but the lube is a big part of that.
