Just curious what kind of ammo everyone carries in their 40's.

I really like Remington Golden Sabers 180 grain.

Federal HST 180-grain. When I get my first 9x19, it will be Federal HST 147-grain.

The only round I trust nearly as much is the Speer Gold Dot. The HST and Gold-Dot are heavily street-proven and consistent in both penetration and expansion.

In a pinch, I'd trust the Federal Hydra-Shok as well (I carried the 155-grain .40 Hydra-Shok for about a year). It may not expand as dramatically or reliably as more modern loadouts, but I trust it to feed, to keep core and jacket together, and to penetrate.

155gr Winchester Ranger in the summer
165gr Hornady Critical Defense in the winter
In my Walther P99c

Federal XM40HC

It's 180gr HST with a brass case in lieu of nickel-plated brass. But at $17.99 a box of 50, it's only a couple bucks more than 180gr FMJ, so it's both my training ammunition and carry ammunition for my M&P 40 compact (that loves the stuff).

By department policy I have to carry 180gn remington golden sabres in 40 s&w. We also have to carry the golden sabre line in other off duty/backup weapons (except shotgun and rifle of course). My personal preference in the 40s&w is a 155 or 165 grain bullet though.

mike, HST wasnt tested in that link?

Hydro Shok isnt the same round.

But even with that test, i dont understand why they didnt show the terminal effects and not just the recovered bullet expansion. If a bullet hits the bone, I want to know what it did to that bone.

I know... but Ranger T normally expands as well as HST and the Ranger didn't expand. I would really like to see the various calibers/weights of HST in the same test.
