This has probably been experienced by others but I need some guidance. I reload 40S&W for my Dad. He brought me 1K of Winchester small pistol magnum primers rather than non-magnum. He got a deal and I have a problem. He can't take them back and wants me to use them. I am using Sierra 155 Gr HP and Titegroup.

I read that I should start with -10% powder charge. Does this sound reasonable. I don't have a chronograph so all I have to go on is if the pistol cycles properly.

You input is appreciated.

I agree with Walkalong, mag. primers will raise pressures, but reducing the powder charge should compensate for the difference.

I have been trying to use up some Remington 5 1/2 primers that I purchased by mistake. Starting with 10% reduced loading worked fine. I tried to stay away from faster burning powders because I feel like I have a little more room to work with the larger charges required with the slower powder.
