I had loaded up some .400 Corbon years ago and they got put on the back shelf until yesterday. I used Win large pistol primers. ( wish I had some small primer brass, may get some but I have 300 of these!). Anyway I loaded 9.4 grs. of Universal Clays under a 155 Gr. Ranier TrFP bullet @ 1.220 O.A.L.
DO NOT DUPLICATE THIS LOAD _ IT IS EXCESSIVE!!!!
The first shot over the Chrono at 74 degrees read 1420
The second shot read 1422
The third shot read 1421
I had to know if the first one was a fluke. I had recovered the brass on the first round and knew it was over in the pressure arena. All three brass showed signs of high pressure. No worse than I have seen on some factory +P but excessive none the less. The primers were not flattened severly, not even flattened all the way across , which would be a sign of VERY high pressures. The firing pin "dent" was pushed back flat and sheared a bit. A nice shiny scrape.
High - 1422
Lo - 1419
Avg - 1420
ES - 3
SD - 1
Now I know this is only three shots, but I have never fired three shots of anything this close together. Impressive. Universal Clays has given me real good ES & SD's at .40 S&W pressures vs .45 ACP pressures where they were not as good, although the accuracy was still good. Maybe it just gets better with more pressure. Interesting.
14.5 Grs. of AA # 9 shot well with no sign of pressure, but I did not chrono them. 7.9 grs. of Universal was not enough. Yea, I know, thats a big jump. More testing to follow now that I have my pistol for the Corbon barrel back. I am going to try Zero 165 Gr. JHP's also.
This is unchartered territory ! Do not use this premature data !!
