Just picked up 250 of these made by hunting shack they dont have a gas check. I need a good starting point to load up some of these in the morning. In all my stuff i cant find a 405 cast w/322. Should of grabbed 4198 got all kinds of info on that . Also have RL7 but wanna save that for the 350 jacted hornadys for elk Please help

Haven't tried 322, but for 35 yrs 3031 has been my mainstay with the 45-70, both jacketed and cast (Lee 405 FP flat base non-GC). As you suggest, 4198 is probably the better of the two (I use it, too, but only of late), and you'll find good loads for other powders, but I can attest to 3031, and it does a super job. I use it sparingly in my trapdoors out of dererence to the soft steel, and usually go with Unique or 2400, but in the Marlin I stick to 3031. With Hornady 300 gr JHP/JSPs & 53 gr I get consistent 1" groups at 100 yds.

Bump for some info I know guys use it just need a starting point:banghead: Thanks

Is this for .45/70?
What rifle?

Lyman lists following; .45/70, mod. 86 Winchester/Marlin:

405 gr. cast: start - 43.5 gr. H322= 1469 fps
" " " : max - 48.5 " " = 1740 "
