Just bought a Ruger #1 in 405 and would like to find a good source for ammo. Anyone ever pull the trigger on one of these?I Plan on using it for moose and black bear.

The only mfg. I know of for ammo is Hornady. CDNN was doing a clearance a while back and had a good price. I do not know if they sold out. Sportsmans Guide also sells it.

I picked up a Winchester 1895 a few weeks ago. Recoil is stout but not punishing on my handloads. I'm using a Hornady 300 JSP over 55 grains of H4895.
The one thing that irks me is that big 'ol bolt coming back at my face upon operating the lever. Granted, you won't see it when the bead is on game, but I know it's there.
You'd be smart to assume a cartridge of that size has a good report. It's louder than you think. I touch it off and the firing line stops dead and all eyes are on me and the cannon I'm holding. It's good for grins.
I have no idea about factory ammo, because I'll never buy any. Why bother when I can roll my own?
