I found some 40mm ammo cans at the last gun show for $8 each. (should have bought several more lol)

I have seen the locking device for the ammo cans, but where this can has a lever on each end, instead of a hinge, will they work, or do I need to use 2 of them? They say they will work with this can, but im not sure.

Anyone know of any homebuilt locks for these things?

With the hinged ones I was always for drilling a hole in the corner and running a padlock shackle through it. Kills the airtightness, though.

How many do you want to secure? I bet a length of cable/chain & a padlock might do the trick.

In the service, we used to weld part of a hasp to the box, close the hinge, & insert a padlock though the hasp portion. Locked the can up real good.

You can probably use bolts, washers, nuts, & some sort of sealant to do the same.

I didnt think about that. The levers have slots that the hasp could work with, and I have a welder, so im good to go. Just have to pick up a few.

If they're like the .50 can's I've seen, you bolt one end down(you can seal the bolts if you like), and on the other end you put a "U" bolt or some such that it goes through one of the slots. That's how the cans we used to secure impulse cartridges in the hangers worked. Heck, you can do it with any ammo can.

You cant open the can without opening both sides. The lid wont hinge up from one side.

Im gonna weld a hasp under the levers. They have a slot cut in the lever that will work well with it.
