I do load 180 gr with longshot works good for me . But I would like to try some 170gr hp bullets with longshot any info out there? I use 8gr with 180 gr xtp.

I load .40 all the time with Longshot, but I haven't loaded anything in the 170 or 180 gr. range. Where does your 8.0 gr. charge fall into the load range, low, mid, or upper end? If it's the lower end I would move to about mid range data for that 170 and work up form there. If it is the upper end just load that 8.0 gr. charge for the 170, if it is working well on a 180 it will be fine for a 170 to start with. A rule of thumb is that when decreasing bullet weights the powder charge goes heavier, and the opposite applies for heavier bullets.

How do ya like that Longshot for .40? I use it for 9mm, also with really good velocities and accuracy.

I like the longshot, I use it in some of my slug loads, But was surprised that there was no loads to be found for the 170gr there is loads for 180gr 8.3 gr max , I think you are right about being OK with 8.0 but I will start at 7.6gr.Thanks

Because you are going down in bullet weight, it's important that you not reduce the load too much, bad stuff can happen when slower burning powders are reduced too much. So just load what you did for the 180 gr. and nothing bad will happen. From that point you can begin to work up if it seems under powered, it might be a little bit.

Thanks, I was thinking along the same line , I did look at the burn rate chart.
