I'm trying to find some starting loads for 140/155 grain lead bullets with either
Titegroup
Universal
or WST

I am thinking about 10% less than a jacketed 155 grain load with Titegroup in the Hodgdon manual, but I haven't a clue for the 140 grain bullet.

Thanks!

Mike

Start with 6.6 Grs. of Universal with either bullet and work up.
Start with 5.8 Grs. of Tight Group with either bullet and work up.
I'd be guesing on the WST, but I would try, Na. I won't guess for someone else.

I really like WST for lead bullets. I use 4.7gr for major and a 168gr lead bullet, so I'm sure you could start with 4.5 since you are using a lighter head. My minor load of 3.4 is also super nice, but you may need to change recoil springs for it.

Thanks guys. I probably have to do a bit of experimenting as I want both minor and major pfs.

I was going to start a new thread along these lines but so far this one is answering a lot of questions.

I'm going to start reloading .40 this week and have some 155 grn LRN (lasercast) bullets on the way. I'm looking to start with light "factory spring" loads.

With that said, are the powders mentioned thus far the best choices? I'm not married to any one powder in particluar although I currently have Clays, Bullseye & Trailboss on hand.

I had planned to purchase the best powder for my application but having trouble finding a solid answer on a good powder choice and charge weight for my bullet choice.

I've had very good luck with Titegroup in my 40S&W so far. I use a lot of it in 9mm and 45ACP and it works great. I used to use Bullseye but find Titegroup to be cleaner and perhaps just a bit better in overall shot to shot consistency. I've loaded some jacketed 155 rounds at 4.7 grains of Titegroup and it worked fine, so I am going to try that first with my first 155 lead loadings. I've seen loads as light as 3.8 grains, but that might cause some cycling issues if you don't have a lighter recoil spring handy.

I bought 180 gr lead flat points for my XD 40. I was planning on using unique because I have it on hand. Does anyone have any load suggestions for that combination?

180 grn lead with 3.3 grns of titegroup was 133pf and 180grn lead with 3.6 grn of WST was 140pf in my CZ 75.

The WST is cleaner but the titegroup felt better to me.
