I am currently using montana gold jhp (forgot the weight) with 3.4 gr of clays (out of a 5" 1911). I don't like the load because it is really light.
I made the switch to lead to save money and I bought a 4" beretta cougar so I am thinking that I may need multiple loads ( not a big deal because I have two presses). I am looking for plinking loads and maybe ipsc loads for the summer for both pistols.

Current bullets are:
bullet - 155gr lswc
powder - clays, my friend let me try some of his universal clays, or any others you guys recommend it just needs to be clean.
primer - winchester smp
brass - range pick ups

Thanks

also does anybody have stock specs for the 40 and the power factor?

I've been real happy with my .40 Hi Power using Western Nevada 175 gr LSWC's & bulk Win 180 JHPs with AA7. The lead bullets do well for me when I do my part. I worked a bit to find an OAL & powder charge that seems to work for what I do.

A few Glock .40s have proven much pickier about feeding, extracting, & ejecting with some handloads.

I don't remember power factors, but 180 grs at about 950 to 1000 should be major.

Thanks for the quick reply

How many grains of accurate 7 do you use for the 175 lswc?

For 40 S&W full power loads my favorite powder is Hodgdon Universal. Best velocity for the pressure in most weights, clean burning, and low flash. What more could you ask for?

I don't have any of my load data handy so I don't want to misquote a load but I think it's worth working up a few with your favorite bullet (I tend to use plated and JHPs). If you don't need maximum thrust per squeeze I've had good luck recently with Tite-Group as well.

I've been shooting 5.2 grains of Univeral Clays behind 180 gr TMJ for several years for IPSC. Shoot it out of a Glock 35 (2/10 a point from making A class....ARGHHH).
