40Super.... are there folks shooting this caliber? Reloaders? I know that it must have taken a big hit (no pun intended) with the demise of Triton Ammo. However, I've heard a rumor that another company is going to pick up where Triton left off. And this is one hot round.

Lone Wolf Distributors , EFK Firedragon and Jarvis Custom all offer aftermarket barrels (for Glock 21, etc.) in this caliber.

Variety is the spice of life, and the more options the better, but I've never seen a gun or barrel chambered in it...

What's the difference between the 40 Super and the 400 CorBon? Doing a quick search, it seems like the goal is a 155 Gr bullet at over 1,500 fps... That's pretty smokin!

Lone Wolf Dis. has the 40 super ammo. again. They've got one round which is 135 gr at 1800 fps, that's 971 ft #'s out of a glock 21. They've the barrels and springs needed for conversion also.

I knew this ammo was coming... the Precision Ammo factory is here in Tampa, and we had met the owner several times at local gunshows. He invited us to visit the factory and showroom, which we did. A very impressive operation. Much of their business is government, with a lot of frangable ammo. This caliber intrigues me. I may invest in a barrel just for the heck of it.

What's the difference between the 40 Super and the 400 CorBon?

The difference (bacially) is that the 400 CorBon is a necked down .45 ACP cartridge utilizing a small pistol primer.

The .40 Super cased was based on trimmed .45 Win Mag brass then necked down. The case was trimmed to provide that the overall case length was the same as standard .45 ACP brass (necking down shortens the case and decreases case capacity). The case head was strengthened and the primer pocket was then changed to allow for the use of small rifle primers.

This allows for a much stronger case that will handle much higher pressures then the 400 CorBon (and also provided a larger pressure buffer for those inclined to push the envelope while reloading <NEVER a good thing to do w/o proper testing equipment!!!>.

Here is an information link

I shoot 40Super out of a Glock21. I use the Sprinco recoil spring assembly with a KKM Precision 6inch barrel. I do handload for it. The 45WinMag case can be reformed to 40Super but the result will not be a case that can handle full house 40Super loads. I learned that talking to Starline about the idea of buying their 45WinMag cases and reforming them to 40Super.

The .40 Super case is NOT the same length as .45ACP. It's the same length as a 10mm case.
