.41 Mag Association

Is anyone in the same boat as I am?
I put off getting a Henry big boy steel to get other guns for too long, now they have stopped making them. I knew better.
Like you I was holding out, but they were impossible to find, so holding out was a moot point. Yesterday I walked into a gun store I very seldom go into because the owner is a pure a-hole looking for some 30-30 ammo. I happened to glance up from the empty space and saw a 41mag Henry Golden Boy Carbine with the 16.5” octagonal barrel and the larger lever loop. Made a great deal and Merry Christmas to me. I’m acheing to get it to the range to try it out!! The wood is gorgeous and the brasslite finish is a little flashy but it will get used.

Me jealous !
If you didn't get the 30-30s, happy to trade a couple hundred hornady FTX 30-30s for your Henry .........?

Well my .41 magnum fascination began over 30 years ago.....purely by accident!! Ruger mentioned they would release a DA revolver in .44mag, well I went down and put my name on a very long list. Two years later when my Redhawk arrived the gun shop called me and I got there as quickly as I could only to find that a mistake had been made and the gun was in the caliber .41 magnum to except a scope with rings and funny looking D shaped cuts in the barrel rib. Luckily The shop also had some .41 magnum ammo on the shelf. I bought four boxes went to the range and fell in love with the caliber. I’ve been hunting with it competing with it and reloading for it for over 30 years. As of this year Christmas I now have a Henry Golden Boy carbine in .41 magnum as well! That’s a total of four .41 magnum’s now.
My first a 7.5” stainless Redhawk topped by a 2X Leopold Handgun Scope, a 4” Stainless Redhawk I customized from a 5.5” for carry in the woods, a stainless Taurus 415 in .41 magnum with a ported 2 1/2” barrel and my new Henry. 7F6AA5F3-B6C7-4A14-9499-2A3D1DA3C835.jpeg 067C41EB-DD67-4D0E-8680-CA8E142AE677.jpeg

The shorter Redhawk in 41 was my favorite gun to carry for cougar hunting. When I went to pull the trigger on the octagon Henry I couldn't find one. I'm not in despair over the Henry though, I have several other Henry and Marlins in 41.

Well, much as I hate to, I have to resign my membership in the .41 Mag association.
Sold my M-57 a little while ago because I am getting old and was not shooting it.
Hopefully it's new owner is enjoying it.
Just going through my reloading stuff and found a copy of:
One Book/One Caliber
Reloading Manual for the .41 Magnum
I would like to send this to a .41 Mag fan.
First person to contact me by email at rich at rabid jackal dot com and pay for USPS Media Mail shipping (I am guessing $3-4?) it is yours.
Shoot on my .41 Mag brothers.
Happy New Year, Rich

I picked up a clean 6.5” Blackhawk .41 off GB just before Thanksgiving. I added a set of Chiggs grips that were delivered at the same time the gun arrived after the auction closed and the mandated waiting period was done. I think it turned out pretty nice:

When I get a chance to shoot it I’ll write up how it (and I) do.

Stay safe.

Rio..that is one clean Blackhawk...and thous grips make it stand out from the crowd...

Those little devils are a might sporty. I usually shoot a 250 grain LSWC loaded with a moderate amount of Unique for an easy shooting load. I had my 210 grain XTP with 22 grains of H110 load with me, so shot a cylinder or two of those the other day...that was a wake-up for sure. I am glad I always follow the same advice you gave out above.

Your picture inspired me to start carrying mine while out in the woods...

It's loaded with some of Matt's HPWC bullets with 7.0 grains of UNIQUE...

Would any of the fine members here happen to have a .41 cal chamber reamer available? Inquiring minds with a couple of tight chambers want to know.

Love .41 mag. Shooting it for more than 20 years.

I've got snub nose Terminator, a Ruger New Model Blackhawk, a S&W model 657 (6" stainless), a Contender barrel, and of course a Marlin lever action with 20" barrel.

The 657 is one of my favorite wheel guns. It always goes with me on river trips in bear country.

The Terminator has got that extra oomf over the .357 to deal with layers of heavy clothing in winter time self defense.

The Marlin makes a great gun in heavy brush, and when I ride with it in a saddle scabbard I like to strap on the Ruger.

The Contender knocks over steel that the .357 bounces off of.

The .41 gets little love from most gun owners, but lots from me.

There is a guy that goes by “DougGuy” on castboolits and ruger.com that will ream polish and touch up the blueing for about the cost of a reamer. I think he is on facebook also. He does very good work and has a quick turn around.

Koroner,
I had to google the Terminator, hadn't heard of them, with even being a 41 Mag nut. who has too many of them. Welcome to the "Association"!

The latest acquisition to my 41 stable is a 4" Smith 657 no dash. The gun has been fired very little (no box) I won't be able to pick up the gun until the goobers in control at the state decide it's ok, probably 10 days. I needed another 41 like a hole in the head, I can't swing a dead cat over my head without hitting a 41 in my gun room.

Bush Pilot...nice investment....

S&W only made the 4" in 1986 (another brilliant move on their part). Over on the auction sites there are usually 2-5 of the 657 3" stocking dealer special guns for sale at any one time. Rarely is there a 4" for sale...so either people are keeping them or there was a lot less than the 5500 3" guns that were made...
