I just acquired a New Model Blackhawk in .41 mag. It's in the gun shop (Here in California we have to wait 10 days to get it.) So I'm going to be asking lots of questions, I hope you folks will help me out.
1 I can get some starline brass cheep is this ok?
2 I like berry's bullets and have some coming (210 gn)
3 I've got bullseye, 2400, and unique and looking at starting at 6.5 gns of
bullseye, 14 gns of 2400 and 6.5 gns of unique.
So what do you guys think? I always check here before I shoot a new load and so far you have all kept me safe. Thanks Rick

Your listed charges both look like good starting loads with the 210 gr bullet and are way below the maximum loads listed in my most current Alliant manual. Enjoy your new Ruger 41 Mag.

Starline brass is great stuff.

Those Berrys will work just fine for plinking loads. Don't try to push them too hard or use them with large doses of H-110/W-296 that needs a heavy crimp.

I have no idea what charge of Bullseye to use. It should work fine for light plinker loads.

I would start with 8.0 Grs of Unique with a medium taper crimp, or a light roll crimp if you don't have a taper crimp die. That will be a mild .41 load that will still have some power.

I don't know if 2400 will work either. At least not with the Berrys and their limitations with crimp/velocity.

If you want to get the potential from it, get some jacketed or lead pills for it. Then 2400 will do you very well.

Are you getting these loads from a (recently-published) manual? Because that's an absolute must.
Gotta agree. Asking here is fine, but a manual is a must.

Thanks for all that. I've got books, seems like three books will give three different loads as they all use different components. I but together all I can find then I like to check with you guys. I'm new (almost a year now) and you folks always help. Thanks again Rick

8gr Unique will make a nice heavy plinker - roughly 900fps, depending on the gun.

2400 probably isn't the best choice for Barry's bullets. Order some of Missouri Bullet's .41 Trooper bullet and put it over about 14gr for a "get your attention" magnum load (max is ~16gr, depending on your source).

The .41 is probably one of the most unnoticed big(ger) bores out there. It never caught on like the .357 or .44 Mag and has long been surpassed by the .454, et. al., in the power bracket.

Here's a whole slough of recipies, including Bullseye, 2400 and Unique: http://www.handloads.org/loaddata/d...&Weight=All&type=Handgun&Order=Powder&Source=

Q

I bought my first .41 12 years ago.

Got some new Starline brass and am still reloading some of it.
Most of my reloads have been made with Unique and enough to move a 210, 215 or 230 grain cast lead SWC at 900 or 950 is a great plinking, bowling pin, or steel plate load.
I haven't used many other powders because I like the Unique loads so well.

My second to last .41 Magnum was a short-barrelled New Model Ruger Blackhawk.
It seems hard for shootin' folks to stick to just one .41.
