Can anyone direct me to a web site that has 41 special load data and does anyone know of a manufacturer other than Sierra who makes 170 grain jacketed bullets. Thanks.

For the most part you aren't going to find published load data for the .41 Special because officially there is no such thing as the .41 Special. You can hunt around the NET for data or extrapolate the data for yourself. That shouldn't be too tough considering the .44 Special is fairly close in size. I would check the volume of both with water to see what the difference is.

Good luck and please let us know what you come up with.

I've found that I get outstanding accuracy out to 50 yards through my Dan Wesson 741 with a 6" barrel, normally 5 shot groups at 15,yds are about .5" at 25 yds just under an inch and at 50 yds I'm getting 1.7" groups. I don't come close to this when I down load regular Mag cases. The brass I've been using is cut down (1.14")R-P brass that has been reloaded 5 times as reduced Mag loads. I've used several powders, W231, Nito 100, Blue Dot, and Clay Dot (same load as listed on Rocky's site using Clays). I reduced all Rocky's loads by .5 gr and haven't seen a need to change. I've also shot several groups of just over caliber size at 7 yds (normal self-defense distances) through my carry gun which is a S&W Mdl 657 3" barrel.

Finally, I've shot the above loads through my Marlin 1894S (18 1/2") out to 100 yds with groups of 1.25" using the Blue Dot loads (reduced .5 grs.)

.41spl loads

215gr swcbb over 6grs unique, 6.5grs Universal, or 7grs Power Pistol in Starline .41spl brass are all very good loads in my S&W 686 conversion by Clements.

The .41spl is not a SAAMI cartridge, and all handloading for it is at the user's own risk.

I think the .41 Special concept is an interesting and useful one, but there isn't any real load data for it because it's so new. In the meantime, you can get by with .44 Special data, bearing in mind that...for a given bullet weight/mass...the peak pressures will probably be a bit higher for a given powder charge. Even if that's not accurate, it's best to assume that they will be and reduce to starting load level before the ascent to maximum velocities.
