Good luck, I never had the slightest idea Rossi even made a shotgun. Enjoy it.

Looks liks somebody did a little customizing on the wood to personalize it. I wouldn't think that affects the value any, one way or another, it's just a budget single-shot .410. They're nice beginners' guns, new ones with the 3" chamber run around $150, I think, so a used one would be about half that.

They are still made, but I'm not sure when they started selling in the US. They are a budget firearm, but made fairly well.
I have a friend who bought one of the combo units with the extra fitted barrels. He got a 410, a 20Ga and a 22-250 for around $250, IIRC.

I'm not seeing a picture of the 410.

You need to use the advanced posting.

My uncle kept a single shot .410 just like that one behind the front door for as long as I can remember.

He moved a couple of decades ago, 40 years later, I went back to visit, and the same shotgun is now behind the back door.

So, times change. But that .410 is right there if needed.

A .410 shotgun packs more wallop than a .44 Magnum, so it is plenty good for dispatching a rabid raccoon or a coyote if required.

Why on earth would you think that?

The Remington factory 240gr. load is 3x the weight of a .410 slug moving at the almost the same speed. You do the math.

I think there's been some discussion here before about shooting .45 Colt from a .410 single barrel shotgun, as works in the Taurus Judge revolver. That would have more punch at close range than .410 slugs or buckshot, but the barrel would have to be reamed or shortened to remove the Full Choke most .410s come with. H&R makes a .45/.410 combo that's made for this, with a rifled barrel for the .45s, and a screw-on choke tube for shotshells. I wouldn't try something like that in an older Rossi, like this one, though.

Full STOP.

Do NOT attempt to fire a .45 Colt cartridge for any firearm not specifically chambered for the .45 Colt round.

It will likely explode in your hands.

No 45s

Exactly.
.410 shotgun = .410" diameter. Operates at 10K to 13.8K psi.
.45 Colt = .452" diameter. Operates at 14K to 21K psi.

You can safely fire .410s in a gun chambered for the .45 Colt, if the chamber has been adapted for the .410.
You cannot safely fire a .45 Colt cartridge in a SG chambered for the.410.

No intention of hijacking the discussion but is it appropriate to use 2.5" .410 shells in barrels stamped 3.0" shells only? I have a Rem. 1100 in 410 ga with a barrel stamped 3.0" shells only and most stores carry 2.5" shells.
Thanks in advance.
