I have done some reading on here about the capabilities of the .410 slug. Basically, a .41 caliber 87 grain to 114 grain slug exiting the muzzle at over 1750-1830 fps. I have read poor reviews of the Foster slug...that it breaks apart quickly on impact and only made its way 5" into gelatin.

However, I have also read that the Breneke slug performs better...to what degree and what way I do not know, yet. But, is not the Breneke slug also a Foster style projectile just with the plastic wad attached to it? Does it not break apart just as readily as the standard Foster slug?

Thanks

ooppsss!!!

After reading the material you referenced I see that I was mistaken about the similarities between the Foster and Breneke slugs. I thought they were both hollow.

As to what I am using them for...well, anything and everything that might pose a problem out at the camp. And, I was more concerned about getting penetration than I was about expansion. So, I wanted something that would do that. And, I thought that a 114 grain .41 caliber slug that did not deform much on impact would be rather effective at the expected velocities out to 20 yards.

Do any damage??

"I thought that a 114 grain .41 caliber slug that did not deform much on impact would be rather effective at the expected velocities out to 20 yards."

Would this round moving at 1755 fps with 781 fpe do any damage to say a couple hundred pound critter?

I would say either would be fine for a camp gun: coons, coyotes etc, but I really wouldn't try it for deer unless you are very practiced and confident

Forget hogs with it, not enough penetration. Up to coyote would be my suggestion. I mean, it'd kill a small deer fine out to 50 yards, but there are better choices for game that big. You say it's for critters around the camp, so I'm figurin' it's not for deer anyway. It'd put the hurt on anything less.
