Hi guys! I'm looking for someone who has loaded 44 Mag using the lee cast 310 gr bullet I am currently using 2400 powder. my Lyman manual calls for a starting load of 14gr and 15.7 max for a 300gr bullet I am seating to the second crimp so the oal is about .100 shorter than listed
My question is how much under the minimum charge has anyone loaded to. I am currently at 13 gr of 2400 I would like to keep them between 800 to 1000 fps
I just don't want to stick a bullet.

thanks,

What barrel length? Do you have a chronograph? What velocities are you currently getting and with what charge?

I'm shooting a smith 6" barrel, no I don't have a chronograph yet, I don't know what my velocity is but I'm at 13gr of 2400

How's the accuracy off the bench?

What I've noticed with 2400 is that although it burns okay with some reduction in charge weight, it's not as accurate. Also, I wouldn't expect you to see a huge velocity increase in a 6" barrel over what Lyman got in a 4" barrel. So, you might be best working the load up til it gets accurate and call it good there.

yes sir! I see the starting load is 15gr I was just a little concerned about pressure because of seating the bullet deeper, that's why I backed off of starting load I cant use the 1st crimp for my smith its just a tad long.

Totally understandable. Good call on backing the charge down a bit. But if you're down at 13gr, I think you're safely in the velocity range you want. What kind of accuracy do you have with it?

haven't checked accuracy yet, shooting just for pressure signs I have only shot 4 rounds. I think its time for a chrono

A chrono is a good idea. I tried reloading without one for a while, but it's been well worth having.

Could you do me a favor, and measure the OAL of one of those Lee 310gr bullets? I'm interested to know how they compare to the WFN I have.

They measure .840 OAL
