I shot about a thousand rounds of 8.5 grains Unique in my N frame. It is a powerful and accurate load. Unique works great in the 44 Magnum case. There is no need to be always shooting 1300 fps loads.

I use Unique with all my magnums as a reduced loading and non magnum pistols. Although you can get good power and velocity out Unique if you want. It is a very versatile powder as I can imagine Universal is. I have no experience with Universal. I have lots of Unique on hand and have used it for many years. IMO anyone who reloads for pistols should have one or the other on hand. You can use them with almost any caliber and bullet weight. Sorry but it's my policy not to give out any reloading data. There is plenty you can get from manuals and from reliable sources on line for free.

I use unique for my midrange loads and 2400 for my full power loads. I typically stick to two bullets 240 gr xtp hollow points and 240 gr hard cast swc. I have had such great success over the last 30 yrs, it's what I stick too. My full power loads are a little hotter in my super Blackhawk than my model 29's.

I just finished loading 8.5 gr unique and 240 gr swc acme coated for my 44 sbh 7.5in will see how they do in a few days

Unique is an excellent powder for the 44 Magnum (Unless you have a case of Magnumitis). I was "enamoured" with the Magnum and used a lot of heavy (near max. to max.) loads of slower powders and kinda liked the recoil and muzzle blast (and the looks I got from other shooters at the range). My 629 had to be sent back to the factory for repair after shooting a lot of heavy loads and I soon grew up and recovered from my Magnumitis. Now I really enjoy 8.5 to 9.5 grains of Unique in my 3, 44 Magnum revolvers, mostly under a Ranch Dog 240 gr RNFP or a 429421...

Too bad this thread had such a short life. I use Unique and Universal in my 44 mag and would have liked to have seen more responses.
how would you compare the unique and universal any preference between these two ?

I've reloaded and shot many, many....many heavy loads of .44 Magnum using H110. I still shoot a lot, but I wanted something a little less powerful, especially since I wanted to shoot my Super Blackhawk more.

This year I settled on a nice load; 240gr bullet and 10.0gr of Unique.

My one go to powder for mid level loads for .357, 44 mag, and warm loads for 9, 38, 45 cap and ar, and 45 Colt. For top end in 357, 44 m, and 45 Colt, 2400.
All my handgun needs can be met with Bullseye, Unique, and 2400 but I do sneak some others in now and then.
