Im interested in buying a 44 magnum, if i found one at a gun show about how much do you think it would cost?

Greetings,

How much it will cost depends on a lot of things, mainly things that have nothing to do with it being a .44 magnum. It's kinda like wanting a car with a v-6, you have your porches and your fords.

I'm somthing of a .44 fan myself. What are you wanting to do with this gun; hunting, plinking, reloading, protection, collecting, blowing people's heads right off (you know like dirty hairy)?

Anyhow, based on your inclinations I'm sure people here could come up with some suggestions and what you might have to pay for them. (the guns, I'm sure the suggestions will be free :) )

44

Wow, the guys have already hit that question on the head.
Here's some quick guestimates.

Used 44 Mag prices.

Taurus start at $300 and go up (Lifetime Warranty) available with 5 & 6 shot cylinders.

Smith & Wesson models 29 & 629 depends on barel length and version of model. Start at $400 and go up from there.
The model 29 is the Blue & nickel version and the 629 is the Stainless model.
Tons of variations are available. Classic, Silhouette, Mountain gun, mountain gun light.... also a large range of barrel lengths up to 8 3/8.

Colt, model Anaconda. 6 shot ,4 inch through 8 inch barrel ported and Non ported
Only available in Stainless. Start at $500 used and take you to $1000 New.

Ruger Redhawk and Super Redhawk. Redhawk was the earlier design and the Super Redhawk was developed later and has a larger frame and also has built in scope mounts right on the frame. Both of these are built like Brick Sh-t houses and will last a lifetime. The Redhawk came in Blue and Stainless and the Super Redhawk to my knowledge only came in Stainless. I would think you may be lucky and find a Redhawk for around $350 and the Super Redhawk would probably start around $400 and go to $550 if it's already scoped. depending on scope choice.

The above are just some of your Double Action Revolver choices.
There's also a bunch of single action 44 mags such as the Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Bisley, Vaquero...
There's also a few mfgs that made or are making Semi Auto versions of the 44 Magnum.
LAR Grizzly Mark 4 (no longer in production) tough to find and plan on dropping right around $1000 for one.
Israel Arms Desert Eagle 44 mag depends on finsh from Blue to 24k Gold plate.
These are still mfg today and you may be able to get one for $700 and go up up up and away to well over $1000 depending on options.

As you can see, you will need to narrow your choices somewhat.
This list should get you started. :D

Greeting's All-

I bought a LNIB Smith & Wesson model 629-6 "Classic" with a 6" barrel
with box and papers (for our gun sales dept) for $400 dollars in U.S.
currency. Most likely we will put this weapon in our Used Gun
showcase for $479; which is one heck'eva bargain.

Found a decent, blued, Ruger Blackhawk in 44 mag in its original box with an asking price of $309 at a local pawn shop. I've been tempted on buying it, but, as my wife says, every time I buy a Ruger, I say, "I should have held out for a Colt. I just like my Colts better." :D

BTW - I have a Colt Anaconda with 6" barrel that I bought new in 1993 for $472 out-the-door. They seem to run $750+ used, for the most part, now.

If you found one at a gunshow it will usually cost somewhat more than it is worth.
nutz..someone already beat me to it. :D

the smith and wesson model 29 is a classic..detective harry calahan of dirty harry fame used one in almost all his dirty harry series except the last one where he brought out the the 44 automag.

I own a 44 mag in a redhawk..stainless steel..7 and a half inch barrel...packmeyer rubber grips. I bought it and had it customized and tuned to go on a wild boar hunt- though the cash to go never materialized. This 44 is by far the most accurate handgun I own. With the packmeyer grips, Id compare recoil to shooting a 357 mag. the grip makes a big difference to me cause smaller grips didnt fit in my large hands. Ruger makes a excellent revolver and as mentioned before, they are very strong guns but I have seen handloaders ruin them with too hot a load.

prices vary on them, barrel lengths, stainless vs carbon steel..barrel porting..model and make. One can easily go hog wild in customizing these but most are as good as go right outtta the box, its all in your purpose for buying it. theres not much on this continent that Id feel undergunned with in a 44 magnum.

If you're looking for a shooter and not a collectible;

Look for a Monson Mass. Dan Wesson Model 44 or 744 in Stainless.
Best bargain out there. Typically run $325 to $400. Stronger and more accurate than most. These guns ruled IHMSA matches and were still going strong when the Model 29's had shot loose.
If you do a search, you'll find most people that have and shoot them love 'em.

Take Care
