]I just got a deal on some 44 Mag. brass (free) and would like to work up a 44 Special type load in 44 Mag.cases. Meaning low recoil and Vol fps. somewhere from 750 to 1000 fps. Need a good "cowboy load" to run in my Winchester 94.
It can shoot both 44 Sp. and 44 Mag. but the Mag. cases run a little smother in "Cowboy Action" mode. The bullets I have are 200 gr. cast lead RNFP's and the powders I have on hand are 231,Clays and Bullseye. The Hodgdon website (Clays and 231) has a Winchester 231 load of 5.8 = 875 fps. to 7.4 for 1039 fps. This looked like a good place to start.

7.5gr of Bullseye behind a 240gr SWC in a 44 Mag case delivers me 1,000fps.

With a 200gr bullet it should be just about what you are looking for. Have fun!

Same powder ! Same Bullet !
Not really.

Hodgdon says 200 grain "cast" bullet and doesn't specify the alloy hardness.
It could have been pure lead for all we know.

Lyman says 210 grain (Linotype) and we know that is very hard and will take more pressure & velocity then anything else.

Hodgdon used a 8 3/8" test barrel.
Lyman used a 4" test barrel.

They each used different lot numbers of powder.
They each used different brands of cases
They each used different brands of primers.
They each used different test equipment.

It's Apples & Oranges really, with nothing the same at all.

Which is why I would give Lyman the nod. A length closer to what I figure you are shooting. That is one reason I like the Speer manuals. They mostly use real guns.

It's kind of bad form to edit out the question after several folks have answered it!
Makes us look like we were imagining things.

Just saying!
