.44 special?

Has anyone tried trimming .44 mag brass down to .44 special? My wife just got into shooting .44 special, she ordered brass and bullets off the internet but when it arived the brass was .44 mag. As I have gobs of this already I thought about trimming some of the brass down. Any input?

the danger of doing this

is that it's gonna be mismarked,and that is not good.It increases the chances of making an error somewhere down the road,or at the very least just being a nuisance.
Others have said that if u do this the cases won't expand to fill the chambes when fired at .44 special power levels and accuracy could suffer.

maybe someone who has done it can chime in on part no. 2 as to their results.

I have tried it and it works fine, the case capacity will be less with the .44 mag cases do to greater wall thickness, so you'll need to start at the bottom and work up. Then you run the risk of loading a normal .44 spl charge in the modified cases
I wound up buying some .44 spl brass, I only tried this with 10 shells since my .44 spl loads are middle of road I wound up using the same charge. I guess these modified cases could be used for a +p type load ? I pretty much gave up on the whole thing.

Thanks for the input. I have considered the pain of keeping the mag and special brass seperate, but my main concern was the mag brass being thicker and upping the pressures in a dedicated 44 special gun.

That is just more trouble than it is worth. A LOT of brass to trim off. Yea, it will work.
