Almost everybody is avoiding one of his questions. "Can I use Universal in my gun?" Yes...It compares to Unique. It's a midrange powder, but MAY be slightly cleaner.
I use a bit of Herco for this velocity-range, but almost any Alliant powder works. I ALWAYS keep some 2400 around for the hotter loads.
If you want to compare different bullets of the same weight, you want to compare "seating depth."
Of course, wwhen you change any componant, drop the powder charge, and work back up.
Have fun,
Gene

Thanks everyone, Universal is next and maybe BigTubby's Unique but I doubt there would be much difference between those two. Then some .431" bullets!

Just ordered up some Penn .431" bullets. Can't wait to see if these make any difference! So far the .430" bullet at about max load of 2400 is best.

Have you tried the IMR 4227? I really think that you will find your best accuracy and pet load with this powder. I did mine. Like I have said before 2400 is great with jacketed bullets in my gun, but for lead, the IMR 4227 wins hands down. It burns completely, and the recoil is a warm push vs. a snappy fire ball.

Heck! I'd almost buy you a .lbs of IMR 4227 so you'll try it.

Finally got my Penn .431" bullets in. Going to load some with 2400, Universal, unique and IMR4227! Can't wait for the results. Going to start out with the same amount of 2400 I used with the other bullets.....
