.44mag w/ 225gr barnes help

Hi all. First post. I recently got into the reloading thing for the obvious reason of ammo availability. I have read tons here in addition to the abcs of reloading and some other stuff. I sucessfully loaded some .40 rounds (plinking) and Im now hooked. The accuracy of making your own is great!

Heres my question.

I need some data on a load in .44 mag w/ 225gr barnes xpb using unique, win231, or titegroup. I have more unique than the other 2 but I will use whatever is best for the load. This will be a whitetail hunting load coming from a marlin 1894 levergun.

I emailed barnes and got no response.

Hodgdons publishes their load data online.

Unique: Doesn't list data for a 215 gr bullet, but lists for a 210. Even though it's only a 5 gr difference, I'd back off the charge a bit.

You may want to consider adding another powder. W296 / H110 (magnum primers) or IMR4227 have treated me well in 44 mag.

Considering you are developing a hunting round, it would be prudent, if not necessary to go with a powder better suited for such. In short, for a load purpose such as hunting deer, a slower burning powder will be easier to obtain the velocities necessary without having push the pressure limits. Some of the more appropriate powders would include H110 or 296 being my personal first choice, IMR-4227 and 2400 would also function quite well for this task. But there are a few other slower burners that would make due also, check some of the online data sources.
