After a 3 month search, I finally have a conformation # on some magnum pistol powder!

Today, I found 8lbs of IMR 4227 and will be loading this for a marlin 1894 44mag (Horn. xtp due to twist rate and large bore) and a Ruger SRH 44mag (barnes xpb)

Basically, I have read conflicting reports on whether or not a mag primer is needed. Yes or no?

I would also appreciate any load advice on the barnes 225gr & 4227 combo as this data is about scarce as 22 ammo.

When I was loading .44 Mag with IMR4227 for a carbine, I used WLP primers with good results. Hopefully others will have more info.

I don't buy and use magnum LPP's with IMR4227. Like Walkalong, I use standard Winchester LP primers that are considered both a standard and magnum primer.

I have used IMR 4227 with regular and magnum primers in my 629 S&W ... very little difference seen between either ... maybe 15/20 fps velocity difference ...

Work your load up with either ....
