NO!!!! A single-shot for HD!?!?!? I suppose if that's all you got, go for it. But I'd strongly recommend something with capacity.

I'm of the school of thought that affirms the superiority of any weapon at all to none at all in a violent encounter, so I can't say that I think it's a bad idea. But if I had the choice - no, I would much rather make use of something a little more substantial in both caliber and capacity.

You use whatever you have available.

Believe it or not, there are alot of gun owners out there who are not gun nuts. They may have an old single barrel Harrington-Richardson break open from gandad, or maybe its for shooting pests in the garden plot out back. They don't go to the range, don't even own a handgun.

But when the big bad wold is pounding on thier door, and their scared, they will grab whatever is there. It may work as most burglers don't want to get in a gun battle.

A while back I saw in the Armed Citizen in the American Rifleman and old guy and his wife were tied up and left in the bedroom while a group of burglers ransacked thier house. Old guy got loose and retieved a .22 bolt action rifle from the closet and chased off the burglers. The rifle wasn't even loaded. Brave bunch.

I'd rather something else but as prev. posted if thats what you got. thats what you use

Ya know, I've been thinking about this for a few moments now. Kind of putting it in perspective.

People knock the little .410. It's the smallest shotgun, the kids first one. Like a .22. It gets little respect.

But, think of it this way; a 45 round ball out of a Kentucky rifle powered by black powder, was not as powerfull as a .45 round ball from a modern .410 shotgun powered by smokeless powder. And yet those old .36 to .45 Kentucky's laid many a raiding savage or redcoat low.

I think modern gun nuts are spoiled by both the disposable income they have, and the constant parade of new wonder guns on the pages of the gun magazines.

Carl you got me thinking that if for some reason I could not get to any of my other HD shotguns (4 total) I would grab my wifes .410. The .410 would give me a little more time to get to my 2 12ga. or the 20ga. Also as a house rule all shotguns are to be loaded at all times.

You wanna tell me that a load of pellets to the face from under 10 feet will keep me your number 1 priority. I don't think so. After taking a load of shot to the face I will be off of your list of things you are interested in. Especially as you are distracted I am heading for a 357 to finish the ingagement if you wanna push it and not leave.

well, as long as the bad guys are going to give me a perfect and guarenteed 10 ft shot with a clear shot to the face, then fine, but im pretty sure they dont have to promise on that in their union contract.

id also like not to defend myself in court after being engaged in a 2 gun battle.

I certainly wouldn't go and buy that gun for the sole purpose of home defense. A .45 or 410 would both work out, but get at least 3-4 rounds out of it before having to reload.

But, as everyone said...if that's all you have....by all means use it!

jeebus ... this is about the Taurus Judge.

I read the title and was thinking a .45-410 ... like some sort of super mega Quigley magnum!

I carry a Bond Arms Ranger in 45 loaded with top barrell 45lc bottom 3" buckshot with 5 balls. With the BAD HOLSTER which is What they call a driving holster THE GUN Conceals very easy in a cross draw BUT It is not my Primary its just what I have on ecxept when I AM SLEEPING THERE or other guns close buy the Main one is my GP 100.

I've typed these words before

I would definitely use it for home defense but...

Every other round of ammo in the house would have to be spent.
Every gun would have been run dry.
Only then would I reach for this gun.
But at this point, I don't think it is going to solve the problems I'd be facing.

Yes, that gun (any functioning gun) would be used for for HD.
