I work Armed Security. Retired Military I am. Republican voting for McCain. We have a great bunch of guys and gals that work our company. 45 acp, 40 sw, 9mm, 38 spl, all common to what they carry. But of course in the Semi - Auto's in the main hub of officers we have GLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Rules. I do not doubt or tear down Glock. It is a fine weapon. But we have several that carry the G-21, including our GM. Fun is poked at others alot who are not of the Glock Fold.

I believe the Kimber will outshoot the Glock and to me more reliable when it means my life. My experience and my opinion and when asked I state it.

On range during recerts of qualifications, my Kimber Never failed, but I have seen many times G-21's jam.

I want to present this to the brothers and sister shooters. What is your take and experience and feel free to comment for suggestions.

If you have other preference for 1911 please state, tell why and vote on poll. This is a friendly thread note posted NOT to put down Glock. But sincere.

There are 4 other guns included on poll asked by friends. Yes, I am somewhat of a novice on space's on THE HIGHROAD.ORG, forgive me if dumb.

Shalom

Had a kimber ultra carry and she didnt run right I sent er back and they fixed it but the confidence was never there. Sold that now have a g23 no fte ftfs and will eat anything even had money left over for my Hk fund.

Dan Wesson 1911's.............the best for the $$$.

They are "maybe" a small notch below the high dollar semi-custom names in quality, yet with a price far below.

I have had Glocks. Again not putting them down. Some Kimbers have to be loosed up/broken in I admit bun then after no problem. I have seen countless G21 nib jam. Frankly all I have never seen jam is a revolver.

but I have seen many times G-21's jam.

?!?!?!?

Uh, wha?

I've owned plenty of both, and still own 1911 and Glock.

I, personally, have never seen or had a Glock jam. I'm not saying that they don't, but it's not particularly common. On the other hand, I have had and seen many 1911's have feed issues. That said, the 1911 is my favorite 45, but more from an ergonomic and historical standpoint. If my life were on the line and I had to choose between a NEW 1911 or NEW Glock, sorry, but I'm going with the Glock.

The only way that I have seen a Glock jam is if you "limp wrist" it.

Having said that I find the G21 as ergonomic as a 2x4. When I went looking for a .45 I looked at the M&P and XD45.

I liked them equally well but went with the XD. It fits my hand well and not made by Clinton licking pc sellouts like the M&P.

BTW
I like Kimbers and several other 1911's but the pricing can get pretty silly.

What about the HK USP45?

I have been shooting for a few years now and while the 1911 is my favorite 45 and I will buy one when I can afford it (poor student), the one that I did buy after lots of research and trying many different 45's was the USP45. It seems to be the best of both worlds, IMHO. It combines the solid reliability of the glock with the controls (for the most part) of the 1911. Some say the it is too big and bulky, but before I bought, I compaired measurements and they are very similar to the Glock (sorry, I dont know the model #'s). If concealed carry is not an issue, I think that the USP would be a great alternative to the above.

i voted kimber, but would have voted the other 1911 had the kimber not been on the list.

if the only 1911 on the list would have been a taurus, or any other type of 1911, it would have gotten my vote.

if there were no 1911s on your list, i would not have voted.

I also have both a Glock (G26, 9mm) and a Kimber (Tactical Ultra II, .45). Both have run without issue out of the box (no matter the ammo used, both love to eat anything). I also previously owned a Glock 36 (.45) that never had an issue. For my money if I could only own 1 handgun it would defintely be the Kimber hands down, but I'd fight to keep the Glocks also :D

I would personally take a Ruger. but I really trust Rugers more than just about any other gun to be reliable and robust.

If the Kimber works for you, then there is no other question to be asked. Use it as your duty gun. I hope you never NEED it.

Kimber - by a slim margin

I voted Kimber because I personally prefer a 1911. I own one of those and a couple of Glocks.

I certainly understand why anyone who had a malfunction with anything can lose their confidence in it, regardless who manufactured it. I haven't experienced Glock failures any more than I've experienced M1911 failures. My vote went to the Kimber over Springfield just as a statement of quality and tolerances in manufacturing.

I have no beef at all with the Glock, but it's simply not the same animal as a 1911, and if you teethed on either one of them, and that's what you're instinctively choosing because you're comfortable and confident with it, more power to you.

I would go for the Glock as a duty weapon. The only way I've been able to make my glocks jam is with bad (read: really bad) ammo. Then again, most of the Kimbers I've had opportunity to shoot were all tack drivers that were very reliable.

For "Armed Security" it might be better image-wise to carry a weapon that is ubiquitous among security and police, the Glock.
A security-man carrying a chromed/stainless 1911 might just send the wrong image.

Glock, Glock and Glock! I own both. The Kimber had to be "massaged" before it was reliable.

After I did the work it's 100% reliable even with 200 gr lead semi-wadcutters, however, I would choose a Glock over a Kimber any day of the week and in any caliber.

Get the full size 21 in .45 ACP or the 20 in 10mm.

My CDP Ultra has been 100% reliable through about 2K of rounds (all type bullets and from round #1 ), is super accurate, and I shoot it really well. :)

Kimber's are nice but I like the higher capacity of the glock. But in your case you need to handle and shoot both if you can. Do not worry what everyone else is packin, you go with what feels comfortable to you. I would also like to mention the springfield xd 45, 13+1 in a grip that fits your hand. I am going to get a xd45 and it will be my 3rd xd. Very nice gun's, install a powder river saftey and you have a trigger with very little takeup.

If my life were on the line and I had to choose between a NEW 1911 or NEW Glock, sorry, but I'm going with the Glock.

I would agree with that statement.

The 1911 platform has been around forever and many companies make them and contract parts for manufacture...critical parts. It has been my experience that quality control is crucial to insure that these parts are made and fitted correctly in the pistol. Some companies do better than others, but if an extractor isn't tensioned or shaped right, or a mag release isn't fitted properly and it goes out the door, than it is up to the owner to either fix it or send it back to the company and hope they fix it. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Glocks, IMO, stand a better chance of being made in accordance with the design specs that were tested to work properly, and should stand a better chance of running without having to be "futzed" with by the owner.

I believe the Kimber will outshoot the Glock...

I do too.

The ergonomics of the 1911 is more comfortable for my hands, combined with a quality trigger job, the single action trigger with short reset, and the match grade barrel, means I can fire the pistol closer to it's capabilities, and more accurately than with a glock.

The Kimber had to be "massaged" before it was reliable...

My Kimber had teething problems as well, but after addressing the issues that the factory let slip, it now runs like a clock and I would put it up against any other production handgun in a reliability and accuracy "challenge". I use it in competition every week and would carry it as either a primary weapon, or a back up to a long gun if I could.

G21 and a Mil-spec. G21, though lighter, I feel is a softer shooting gun. both shoot fairly well and will beat out most shooters. I like the feel of my 1911, but if your open carrying anyway- I would pick the lighter gun.

used to have a g30 - never really warmed up to it. lotta people love em, just wasn't right for me and my pop.

I abstained from voting as I made no clear argument.

On one hand, I'm not a Kimber fan -- I love my Colt & my CBOB. OTHOH, I've blown my a G21 but still have a G19.
Fresh out of box, as a duty weapon, I may lean towards the higher capacity of the G21 SF

I own and would trust both brands. In my case both have been 100% reliable. I own 5 Glocks in various calibers and 5 1911's, all in .45. The Glock 21 is by far the most accurate of the Glocks and there is not enough difference between it and my KImber at 15 yards or less to worry about. The Kimber starts to show an edge beyond 15 yards. Based on ammo capacity and lighter weight I would pick the Glock 21. If concealment were a factor I would go Kimber.
