Im reloading 45 acp 200gr cmj fp I have not been able to find any large pistol primers in the state of ohio.I did find 1 box large mag primers.can I use the mag primer if I start out with a lighter load of unique?maybe a stupid question but I am pretty new to reloading. Thanks

Large pistol magnum primers are OK to use in place of large pistol primers. After all, Winchester large pistol primers are good for regular and magnum loads. Some would say to reduce your load by 10%, but I would not.

I would - but only if you already have an established load that is at or near the max published loads. It's fine to start at the min published loads with a magnum pistol primer.

I'm not of the "there are no stupid questions" school, because frankly there are some, and I've seen them on these very pages. But that was definitely not one of them. IOW, never assume a question is a stupid one until someone else tells you it is. :)

...and even then, it might just be a responder with an attitude, or a bad day! Just don't be afraid to ask. Most folks here are good people, and just want to help.

thanks for the info, usually if I am not too sure Id rather ask than find out when its too late.I went ahead and loaded 50 rds I'll take them and see what happens.

What powder and load are you using?

In my opinion, 50 rounds is about 40 too many when you want to "see what happens". You could end up pulling about 49 of them. It's always a good plan to not get too ambitious with reloading large numbers until you have the load down pat.

point well made and point well taken Test your loads before commiting to larger quantities. hopefully its not 40 too many if so,i learned something thanks P.S. unique 6gr.

i love winchester primers, large or small pistol, what does you reloading book say? 10 % then try that and move up csa
