I'm looking for some tried and true #'s on reloading the 45 ACP with 230 gr. XTP Hollow Point, using Titegroup powder. I haven't used Titegroup before, but would like to hear how it has worked for other shooters. Velocity-pressure-grains-primers etc. Anybody?

I'm just curious, if you haven't tried Titegroup before and you're not sure if it works well in the 45 Auto why are you going to load with it? What were you using before and why are you changing from it?

I'm not telling you not to use a powder you want to use, I'm really just curious as to why?

My PD load for 45 ACP using 5.5 gr. titegroup, 230 gr XTP, WLP primers at an OAL of 1.230 works well for me with velocity of 890-910 fps. in an Officer's model 1911 with a 4" barrel. This is a +P load. Hornady manual has max charge of titegroup of 5.2 gr. and Hodgdon has 4.8. with a 230 gr bullet.

I am not a fan, but many people like it.

I agree with ArchAngelCD.

Work up a load before loading in quantity. For XTP's I would be thinking full load, and TG would not be my choice. I would pick cheaper bullets for plinking.

I tried some TG in my 45ACP load with XTPs and didnt get good results at all load ranges I tried, I just couldnt get them to group well. I am gonna try another powder when I get the chance

I switched from TG to WST. Can't believe the difference. I am loading WST under my own 200 grain LSWC's and they are very accurate and clean.

Titegroup was my go to powder for years because it's cheap compared others and it has a wide range of applicability. Having said that though, I am slowly switching over to Power Pistol esp. for my .45's. Titegroup I was using Win LPP and 5.2gr of powder under a 230gr XTP.

Not that I'm "switching" to Titegroup-just thought I'd try it. Have been using HP38 and WST. Have noticed in some of the forums I follow, Titegroup seems to be a popular powder. The shop I use says that they sell much more Titegroup than any other powder, but going to the Hogdon site-they don't show a Titegroup load for the XTP 230 gr. I'll try a small test bunch, and if it sucks, I'll scrap it. Thanks all for the input.

230 GR. HDY FMJ FP Titegroup .451" OAL 1.200" Start 4.4 gr (744 fps) 15,000 CUP - Max 4.8 gr (818 fps) 16,700 CUP

230 GR. LRN Titegroup .452" OAL 1.200" Start 4.0 gr (751 fps) 12,500 CUP - Max 4.8 gr (855 fps) 17,000 CUP

Many match shooters looking for that extra bit of accuracy advantage will shoot Titegroup over say W231/HP38. It is accurate, but has narrower load range and people experienced overpressure concerns at max loads. As posted, some like it due to less powder you need to produce comparable velocities.

If you want to try Titegroup, I would suggest you stay in the starting to mid range (which is very narrow). I rarely use Titegroup now as I am very happy with W231/HP38. Especially for higher pressure 40S&W loads where overpressure concern exists, I feel more comfortable with W231/HP38 mid-range loads.

Besides, how can you do better than 5.0 of W231/HP38 for 230/200 gr 45ACP for accuracy?

Also, if you are looking for full-power loads, as others posted, I think there are better powders ...

Hard to argue with. :)

I don't have a 45 acp gun (at the moment) but I use Tite Group in 38 spl, 357 mag & 9mm.

It meters well, is economical (small charge load) and isn't sensitive to it's position in the case.

I've had really good luck in both of my S&W M10s - pretty good in my M66,
OK to not so great with my 9mm. (don't know if it's me or the gun).

Hope this helps - stay safe

To burn clean? No, it is not position sensitive.

To give consistent velocities? Yes, it's position sensitive. About average according to my testing.

I don't care what Hodgdon says. The tests don't lie. ;)

You won't see it where the case capacity is small like 9MM and .45 ACP, but you will in cases with lots of wiggle room like .38 Spl.

Which all means that if you use "dippers" or your powder measure is a type that drops charges that vary wildly then TG just might NOT be the powder for you.
