If I had the option to carry a 1911 while at war, (and I haven't entirely given up on the idea,) I would use FMJ. I have no real gripe with any round 9mm or bigger AS LONG AS PREMIUM JHP AMMO IS USED. When I frequently remind people that the 1911 has probably saved more soldiers' lives than any other handgun, I also remind them that most of them were using 230 gr ball ammo. Is a premium hollow-point better? Of course. But if you (for one reason or another) can't or won't use hollow-points, .45 is the best choice.
